Feature Artist: Patricia Anders

An Interview With: Tricia

Tricia: I am a native Californian with a burning daily desire to live the creative and art full life. I graduated from San Jose State University in California with an MFA in painting and a BFA in sculpture. My background includes five years as an arts and crafts program director, a year as a gallery owner/curator, a year as a Docent for the John Paul Getty Museum and five years as a member of the Ten Women Gallery, Venice. I have also done television appearances for both HGTV and the DIY channel. My art dolls have been published several times.

I am interested in metaphor, and like to use symbolic imagery as subject matter. I am interested in the surreal and the sublime, the figurative and the visceral. My life like my art, it is a work in progress.

Dr. Christophers: Give me some background on where you come from, and the lifestyle that set in motion your desire to becoming an Artist. And, how did it all start for you, with regards to inspiration for making art? Who and what were the main inspirations for your style of artwork?

Tricia: I was born in Pasadena and raised in various parts of California, primarily the Silicon Valley. I knew from the time I was a child that art would be in my future. My first drawing lessons came from a mail order kit by Jon Nagy.

After I graduated from college I spent twenty years doing social work and wishing I could be the artist I wanted to be. It wasn't until a few years after marrying, 2005, that I was able to begin my artistic endeavors. Learning how to use a computer facilitated my efforts and broadened my scope of possibilities.

Dr. Christophers: Talk to me about the medium you use mostly and why - talk about process.

Tricia: I consider myself a mixed media artist and painter. I mostly paint with oils. I've found it difficult to reign in particular and specific mediums since, the medium chooses itself, determined by the idea needing to be manifested. At some point, I plan on at least displaying them and maybe using them to create.

Dr. Christophers: In your eyes, your most memorable works: can you give me an example (funny) of the process of creating it (a story of miss-adventure, etc).

Tricia: ) Hmmm... that's hard. I would say my "Foot Fungus" piece is a bit funny and it was meant to be.

Dr. Christophers: Talk to me about "Tricia Anders" designs (wishes) for the future with regards to your artwork, etc.

Tricia: I plan to do more craftsy stuff in 2013 as it is easier to sell. I will always paint and hope the recognition follows at some point, making it lucrative. An income is desirable but I create truly out of passion and necessity. Nothing feeds my soul more deeply.
