The New Day

Sunday, December 26, 2010 10:13 AM By Stephen J Christophers

It begins at about five thirty: a haunting chant from the adjacent monastery, one that breaks through the morning silence as the first rays of light try to penetrate the horizon. With an almost rehearsed timing their verses of song give way to the first heralding cockerel. Life stirs now, as the birds, barking dogs, a child's crying, the shouts of a motorcycle taxi man, all seem to play on the ears. Multiples of each contribute to that hum of life, and energy of the new day. Then, as I awaken from slumber an image starts to form in my mind, it's one of a sausage Mac Muffin, and that it is, another beautiful day in Thailand.
